What do Joseph Doran and cold temperatures have in common?
The ability to give you “goosebumps”, according to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Joseph Doran is a singer/songwriter from North West London, who writes a broad range of genres from pop and singer/songwriter to rock. What sets him apart from the average singer/songwriter with a guitar is his ability to recreate a band sound as just one man, using the music technology equivalent of a supercomputer at his feet.
Bringing together a custom built four track loop pedal, a vocal harmoniser and a chain of effects pedals into one large soundscape, is a talent that was described as a “striking use” by the Cirencester Scene Magazine.
He released his debut EP “A World Without You” in November 2017, which he has performed across the UK and Ireland. “When I’m With You”, the first song on the EP, won a Special Mention award in the UK songwriting competition, and his unreleased track “Dream”, is currently in the semi-finals of this years competition.
A UKSC spokesperson said :
“The UK Songwriting Contest directors and judges include some of the world’s top Grammy, Emmy and BRIT Award winning producers who have worked closely with such artists as Sting, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Oasis, Britney Spears and many others. There were more than 5,500 entries in the 2018 contest and we are pleased that Joseph has achieved such an impressive result in this year’s event and wish him every success in the future.”
Joseph has performed at several Teenage Cancer Trust events, most recently Carfest North on main stage to 35,000 people, and also at the 40th anniversary Quadrophenia night, where he sang infront of music legends such as Sting and Pete Townshend, with Pete even congratulating him onstage for his performance. In May 2018 when Joseph met Ed Sheeran, he said Joseph’s EP reminded him of his early songs, and gifted him one of his guitars made by the world renowned luthier George Lowden.
